Lancaster
Set in Lancaster, 7.4 km from Trough of Bowland, The Stork Hotel offers accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking and a bar. This 3-star inn offers free WiFi. The inn features family rooms. The property has been sympathetically renovated after a fire in 2020. it still has a wonderful pub ‘feel’ but the rooms are tasteful and (without exaggerating) one of the cleanest I’ve ever stayed in. I could not see a cobweb or mark anywhere. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was wonderfully appointed for the price with a nespresso machine and a great range of tea and coffee. Again, I’ve stayed in more expensive properties that don’t have this.

The room at the hotel was stylish, comfortable, and infused with a unique charm. The attention to detail was evident, with subtle nods to the world of beer in the decor. The mini-fridge stocked with a selection of beers was a delightful touch, allowing me to indulge in my favorite brews at my convenience (There's also a mini-beer-fridge in the shower!!!). There's a guitar to play and a classic Pathéphone.

The initial drive into the parking area of the hotel was awfully depressing. Huge tall vertical walls and a massive block like building with tiny windows that box you in. Having parked you take a second look and see a modern tower of glass and smooth contemporary architecture that forms an inviting entrance in the middle of the granite structure. After entering the inner sanctuary via a tunnel through the thick outer wall of the prison block you are greeted by a simple reception pult that whilst mirroring the austerity of the main prison is actually the domicile of a friendly receptionist. She (or he) is happy to give you a smile and listen to your jokes about not having being there for a while and not wanting to stay too long. Nowadays though the reception staff hand out personal magnetic cards instead of accompanying you to your room with a key. There are three floors with rows of cells facing each other on each side of a long central gallery. A glass roof and metal staircases at each end of the block complete the first impression. In former days the architecture was simple but the new architects have done a wonderful job with the conversion. External elevators now connect the floors, discrete openings provide easy access to the restaurants and other public areas. Each hotel room is formed by connecting three cells internally to provide bedroom, sitting room and bathroom. The architects have managed to combine modern elements with colour and soft surfaces to provide a feeling of luxury and warmth whilst at the same time retaining a presence of the severity and spartanism that once dominated. A true work of art, we enjoyed our stay, the restaurant, breakfast in the old chapel and a guided tour of the older non-converted part of the prison provided a highlight to our holiday. Die Entscheidung, in diesem umgebauten Gefängnis zu übernachten, entstand aus Neugier.

Very conveniently located in the centre of Marlborough and dog friendly. They provide a dog bed. We were in room 3, which was a bit cramped, but perfectly fine for 2 nights. Bathroom was spacious, comfortable and convenient, with towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. They really made an effort with the breakfast in the room, considering it's non staffed, with overnight oats, fruit bowls, fresh milk, juice and water as well as some prepackaged cakes and a nespresso machine. Also very good breakfast options available in town.
The cottage was beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and some lovely extra touches is cakes, tea, coffee, dog treats, water bowl all ready and a beautiful soft dog bed! Our bed was sooo comfortable! Leather recliner sofa, comfy occasional chairs and great kitchen. The cottage had beautiful views, was really peaceful with lovely sitting out areas. We highly recommend this property.
The staff are pleasant professional and helpful. Pet friendly but large enough public areas so as not to intrude on impose on others who may not like dogs. Located next to the river so great for walking into the town or for dog walking ( lit on an evening)
Great location for visiting the university. Dog friendly - even had a dog bed and water bowl in the room
Location and parking on site. Pet friendly, close to parks. Spacious room with space for our own dog bed. We were able to stay on a room only basis and were therefore able to breakfast at our favourite venue without paying for a meal we didn't take.
We had a dog friendly room as we had our puppy with us, the welcome we had was brilliant. The facilities they put on for us including a dog bed, food and water bowls, waste bags and even a little dog treat The food was great too, especially the breakfast! The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us!
absolutely beautiful stay. stunning property in a lovely rural location, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. the room was comfortable, spacious with a very comfy bed and good shower. it is very dog friendly, they have their own special menu in the bar/restaurant and it was lovely to be able to bring our dog along to stay with us in the pet friendly room.
I liked everything about The Inn. Especially that it was very dog friendly with dog bed, water bowl and dog treats in the room. I could even take my dog in to part of the dining area to eat and the food was delicious. Bedroom and bathroom were lovely and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the little outside veranda with table and chairs.
Fantastic location right by the city overlooking the river which is ideal for a leisure stroll or even, and this brings me onto my next point, dog walking. The Novotel is dog friendly. Yes, there’s an additional fee per night but that is understandable as there’s the potential for additional cleaning but we were fine with this and so too it seems we’re all the other dog owners who we met in the hotel lobby or in the corridors. The staff also offer to keep an eye on your furry pals for short periods, amiable temperaments permitting.
Staff, location, friendless, pet-friendly and value for money. We only stayed one night but will 100% be coming back. Our room was available early and we were greeted and looked after by Andrew on the main reception who made our stay fantastic. Breakfast was good, great service and it is properly dog friendly with an outdoor play area where we could let Coco off the lead. Free parking and within great reach to both Windermere town, the lakes and Bowness on Windermere. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we will be back!
