Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe window in our room was open when we arrived for air but this had let some mosquitos in so watch out before bed! A bit inevitable but other hotels in Rio had nets across the window.
Location and breakfast were great. There were so many options for food we couldn't get through them all! The view is incredible and Stephan was really helpful about which areas were worth visiting on foot and those it was safer to drive.

Brilliant location with lovely views& close to centre of Santa Teresa. I expected it to be a little more rustic as a b&b but we would rather stay there again than staying in a 4* hotel. Aircon in room good, beds comfortable, breakfast was really good & staff were so helpful & friendly. Really clean and beautifully furnished. Needed a late check out so they have a cheap day room with showers which suited us perfectly. Special thanks to Stefan who helped with pretty much anything & everything! Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

IrelandThe property is situated on a high hill, which may require the use of Uber for easier transportation. However, despite this inconvenience, we found the location to be worth it.
The view is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and impeccable clean.

Absolutely everything! Adriana and her son Chris as well as all the staff I met were amazing. The property is beautiful and in a quiet location just minutes walk from great restaurants and bars. It is a very safe area. The addition of the wonderful full breakfast, pool and self service pool bar all added to the experience.

United KingdomBreakfast was outstanding. Ivonete was very welcoming and made a point to explain us the food. Andria was very helpful- thank you so much for your recommendations! Lastly, We loved the interiors and the garden, nicely curated and full of natural light. We recommend Gerthrudes to anyone looking for a break from Rio’s busy city life as well as staying in a very soulful part of town.

ItalyOn the weekends there seem to be some private parties in Santa Teresa which are very loud and go on for 24 hours straight. So if you are looking to enjoy some quiet time maybe prefer the weekdays.
Amazing view, really nice b&b tucked away in santa teresa. The breakfast ist delicious and everything is thought through with detail.

United States of AmericaPretty rigid about things like no coffee in your rooms, or visitors. Our friends we were traveling with were not allowed on the property ( ie. for a glass of wine) prior to going to dinner. Not terrible, but good to know. Shared bathroom 🫤, broken air conditioning.
Location is in the older area of Rio - charming, but colorful, away from downtown, crazy Uber ride. The property behind the locked fence/gate is delightful. The breakfast was very nice and generous. Two issues for us were having a shared bathroom, unbeknownst to us, and a broken air conditioner in sweltering heat. Unfortunately, we could not sleep (room was 82-85 degrees), no fan. The staff was semi-apologetic, but not what you would expect. We were only there one night.

United States of AmericaNothing. I can't think of anything I would change.
I was looking for a place in Santa Teresa, an old neighborhood with mansions, hills, and a cool cafe/restaurant scene. This place appealed to me online because of its location and the fact it is a Bed and Breakfast offering intimacy rather than a heartless hotel. It is a well-kept mansion perched on a hillside with stunning views of Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay. It mesmerized me when I went to the front yard with an outdoor pool and looked out over Rio. The rooms are well-appointed, and the breakfast is delicious and homemade with much love. The owner/hostess was delightful and accommodated my son and his girlfriend to come by for breakfast and shower at a cut rate on their early morning arrival. It was a life-saver. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

United States of AmericaI think they could be a little more flexible with letting outside guests enter, it was a very high cost to invite someone to the pool, but I understand that they want to keep it a private experience. Also, keep in mind if you're traveling with heavy bags, there are a lot of steps to and from the entrance inside the property.
We loved the design of the building and the interiors, everything felt very curated. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. The property felt very private and had a very "VIP" vibe to it, especially the pool area.

Spotlessly clean. Great breakfast with the most amazing views. Spacious lounge to relax in with fantastic views. All rooms were beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated. All staff were very helpful. Great location to wander into Saint Teresa central cafes / bars within 5 mins. Famous steps are 10 minutes walk away. Used Uber taxis to get us further afield.
