Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaThis is a difficult place to have a hostel. There is a high homeless rate in Nanaimo and so security is an issue (similar situation at the hostel in downtown Victoria). However, the management has made a good effort to try to keep guests safe. No doubt, some homeless might look at the low rate and stay for a night or two to get off the street for a bit. There were a couple of odd characters when I stayed there, but they weren't troublemakers.
When I took into account the rate I was paying compared with what I actually received, I was satisfied. I had a shared room, and I was fortunate in that there weren't others in the room with me. Otherwise, my level of satisfaction might have been lower. I generally like hostels, and this was certainly not the best one I've been in. Some upgrades are needed, but it was clean and met me needs. Good kitchen area. The location is excellent; it's very close to one of the nicer waterfronts in the country. A big shout out to Gary, the assistant manager who was very helpful!

South AfricaFood needs to be locked away due to pests.
The property was in a good location by the harbour. It felt safe and was central to the shops and restaurants. The kitchen and common area was clean and gave off a very homely atmosphere. The staff were lovely and allowed an early check in. The check out process was also really simple and efficient. The bedding was clean and there was good laundry facilities on the premises.

CanadaThe building is over 100 years old, so while grateful for the constant cleaning - there needs to be some upgrades- one bathroom on the floor didn't lock, so was insecure - foot on door not a good option - and the windows in the room were very drafty even closed. Old couches in common area that smelled - could use some covers that can be washed Really didn't appreciate to find upon arrival that booking.com had a different rate than the one at the hostel and had been charged more than onsite.
The staff were excellent - constantly cleaning the common areas and bathrooms, kitchen. They were helpful friendly and I was very comfortable with their care of the guesthouse.

CanadaThere wasn't really anything I didn't like for the one night I stayed there. If I had to say one thing it was that the electrical outlet in the room was too far from the bed to use my phone while it was plugged in, but that is such an incredibly minor thing that it almost isn't worth noting.
The rooms were clean and quiet and there were a good number of bathrooms. I didn't stay long enough to use the kitchen and common room, but they were quite large and looked really nice. The gentleman at the front desk was also very helpful and friendly.

CanadaIt's clean but everything is worn out. Our room consisted of a bed and a small side table. The only lamp was plugged into the only outlet and anything plugged into that outlet was powered off when you turned off the light. Our phones couldn't charge overnight.
Great location. Nice common areas and kitchen facilities.

CanadaIf the room had A/C this rating would have bumped up to 9/10. There was one fan in the room which helped, but only a bit. The bed was pretty low so difficult to get in and out of at 8 months pregnant. It wasn't the comfiest sleep.
We stayed in a private room which was nice and clean. The washroom and shower were right across the hallway, which was very convenient for a pregnant woman.

CanadaIt's my second stay and it feels like the rooms and washrooms'cleanliness got worse. My room smelled strongly of smoke. Not sure where because of a previous customer or from outside. The person at the reception was helpful and accommodated my late arrival with no problem. My biggest complaint was that water bottles provided in my room were apparently re used, and just re filled with tap water (?) since both caps were already opened on both bottles and plastic didn't look new. Not sure if it's an exception or not, but I'd rather have no water than something like this. Otherwise it's a good stay, the location is great!

United States of AmericaWe were not happy that the large city street cleaning truck chose to drive by the guesthouse numerous times early in the morning.
It was wonderful to have a full shared kitchen with a large refrigerator, stove and all needed dishes, pots, etc

United States of AmericaLocation was not so great in terms of noise from a nearby karaoke bar at night. It was hot while I was there, so I had to keep the window open, which let in the late-night street noise. My biggest disappointment is that I had requested a room with a queen bed, but they gave me a room with both a double bed and a single bed cot. Both beds in my room were not nearly as comfortable as the queen beds that my colleagues had in other rooms of the type I had reserved, plus there was no space to move about in my room because of the extra bed I did not need. I clearly received a downgraded room. I felt as if I were in the Seinfeld skit about rental cars; I had reserved a particular type of room several months earlier, so why did they not save one of those rooms for me? This defeats the point of making a reservation. Shish!
Location was great for getting around the center of town and to the water front area. Reasonable price for a single room. My room had to use the bathrooms down the hall, and this was never a problem, because there were always several single-occupancy bathrooms to choose from. The common room with kitchen was nice, especially to escape the heat at night in the bedrooms. It felt like an old-style hostel.
