Great spot to spend the nite before and after taking a ferry to Orkney Islands. The owner was very nice and even took me to the ferry next morning.He let me use his washer and dryer.

Single glazed wooden windows that had seen better days. Door in bedroom 1 scraped along the ground Floorboards rather than say carpets meant some creaking/ noise when others walking around. Bed only had one sheet on it - anyone sweating would sweat through to the mattrass and this would then come back through sheets.

The DIY breakfast in a communal are was good with a reasonable range of breakfast items.

Room facilities were basic, a floor mat in the bathroom would have been good. Also, didn't get any WIFI in the room. Wi-Fi was available only in the kitchen area.

The kitchen facilities were good and well stocked. The location was great, being close to eateries, train station and bus stop. Staff was responsive, friendly and helpful.

Would have been useful to be able to find a clean dishtowel rather than have to leave dishes on draining board.

Had to be in Thurso at that time and I was having difficulty finding accommodation-Sandra's Backpackers was my last hope. I had a double ensuite room and was more than satisfied. My room was in same part of building as kitchen. Self serve breakfast. Great selection of cereals. Bread , milk and jam etc in fridge. Tea and coffee inc. coffee pods. Eggs were also in fridge. Large kitchen with several large tables. Kitchen available all day except between 11pm and 7am. Kettles , cookers , microwaves and toasters available. Good chat to be had in kitchen. James, staff, at end of phone if needed. Suggested that he update photo on booking site to match its new frontage. Less than 10 mins to train station and buses nearby.

Things I didn't like were beyond the proprietor's control, t.vs did not work due to damage, I could not have a shower in the morning before leaving because another occupant was on the toilet, nowhere to park my car and other users smoking out the kitchen/dining area with burnt cooking oil and spices, I could smell it on my clothes the next day.

I just wanted a basic accomodation ahead of my onward journey to the Orkneys and that is exactly what I got.

I had to scrounge for toilet paper for my room from another bathroom, and I couldn't find the owner to request a towel, so I scrounged that too. It's all fine; this is not a hotel.

The kitchen/community room is very pleasant, well-supplied, and decorated with good old maps and flags, and lots of tables. It encourages chat! Also the location is very good. The plumbing worked fine, and it was very clean.

This is a hostel so don't expect a 5* hotel. The room was clean the beds were a bit "springy" also all the rooms had en-suite, this hostel doesn't have parking, it was on street breakfast was in the kitchen/diner as was a help yourself, there was a good selection.

The owner was really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The bedding looked brand new and was really comfortable. The room was quiet and warm and the kitchen was well stocked. The shower was really hot with great water pressure.

It was very noisy on the ground floor from people waiting at the taxi rank, but apart from reglazing the window and moving the taxi office, there's not much they can do about it. It was a cheap and cheerful hostel and fitted our needs but our room floor could have done with a sweep and our loo could have done with a clean, prior to our arrival.

Fantastic value for money. Good location and the kitchen facilities were excellent.

Unfortunately, I could only take a lukewarm shower as I couldn't get the water to get any hotter. (I have stayed there before and the shower did work properly then, so it might have been just bad luck that day.)

It was a great option to travel on a budget. James was very friendly when he showed me around. It is nice that the room has an en-suite-bathroom and that there is a kitchen in the hostel.

Disruptive other guest - but not a reflection on the property and the owner dealt with it well.

Convenience - close to shops, restaurants, station. Brilliant price! Helpful and pleasant owner. Common room and kitchen area was very comfortable and well stocked.

It was what I expected. I’m just someone who likes everything fresh, clean and new and, well, this is a hostel. Everything seemed clean, but it was shabby. It’s me though, the hostel was great for being a hostel.

Great breakfast! Really nice that they make it available all day and night because there were a couple of hungry travellers who we thought were probably not eating much else.
