Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThey don't have a car park but offer free street parking in certain areas, but Whitbys a bit of a maze and it's hit and miss if you find one. There is a main car park if you don't mind the walk up the hill
Looked a little deceiving from the outside but fantastic looking hotel on the inside. Staff were excellent and helpful. Comfortable, modern and clean. Nice touch at the reception, looking like it was built out of old suitcases. Bar prices also very reasonable. Excellent breakfast, definitely stop again

United KingdomThey use to have a bigger seating area in the bar, now it’s called the vault downstairs not as big, they made the old bar area in to more rooms which I can see why , they will make more money on, I preferred the old bar more spacious

United KingdomNo immediate parking area, but compensated by providing a 2 day Whitby council parking voucher valid in designated streets close by, which worked ok.
Fabulous suite (room 2). Peaceful room with superb fish tank viewed both from the lounge area and bedroom. Excellent restaurant. Lovely staff and very helpful.

United KingdomI know not many places have it, and it would be impossible to include at this property, but on site parking would have been an advantage.
The building dates from the 18th century but the inside is modern and very clean and comfortable. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. You need to book the restaurant for dinner but it’s well worth it, the food is excellent.

United KingdomThe outside of the hotel could do with a spruce up. Our bed - if you didn’t sleep towards the middle you felt as if you were going to fall off onto the floor.
The staff were all very friendly. From checking in to having a drink in the bar and then breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was good, plenty to choose from. The hotel was modern and rooms were clean and amenities in them were good.

United KingdomSadly the huge bed which at first had appeared so comfy was anything but, didn't get much if any sleep at all. Despite staying at a quiet time of year you could hear everything going on in the flat next to our room which added to our sleepless night. Was a little disappointed with the breakfast selection, although pleasant, I had expected a bit more for the price.
The room was gorgeous, truly more than i could have asked for with a spacious bathroom and living area, the huge bath in the bedroom was the star of the show. Close to many different restaurants, bars and all the attractions within whitby. A decent selection of complimentary items in the room and bathroom, the coffee pod machine in addition to the kettle was a nice bonus

United KingdomIt was a little difficult to locate. The entrances were either up Silver Street through the restaurant or Skinner Street through the main reception.
The staff were incredibly friendly, the bed was INCREDIBLY comfortable (I think it may have been Memory Foam) and the food in the restaurant below was VERY tasty!

United KingdomThe lift didn't work for us on one occasion - seemed to be stuck on another floor. Otherwise no issues during our stay.
Standard rooms were a good size, staff were good at explaining the parking situation. It's great to be able to have a 10:30 check-out, allows a little extra time after breakfast. We enjoyed the cooked breakfast.
