Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThe pillows were the normal Italian flat type and that made sleeping uncomfortable for me.
The hotel is in an excellent location across the street from the Archaeology Museum, near the Lido train station, and close to the Lungomare walk along the water. The staff was very friendly and informative. The room and hotel were very elegant.

CanadaLocation was great! Very close to Cesare gelato, the archaeological museum, hydrofoil, and lungomare. Staff were very accommodating. We had a very early train and they gave us breakfast to go. Dinner at the restaurant was very good. Room and bathroom were large and clean. The hotel is a bit dated in terms of decor, but we had a good stay. Would recommend.

United States of AmericaWe struggled to park in front of the hotel when we arrived, it’s very congested there, and there is significant road construction occurring (Sept 2023). But the front desk staff quickly took our car key and parked the car in an offsite lot.
The hotel is located at the beginning of the strand, and at the beginning of Corso Garibaldi. Nice lobby, working elevator. The room was quiet with a motorized rolling window shade. Good sizes bathroom.

NetherlandsThe upper edge of the bath tube in one of the rooms was broken and it was not straightforward to regulate the air conditioning. It was not easy to locate the stairs in case somebody wanted to take them instead of the elevator.
Great location. Friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast with a unique view from the restaurant on the top floor. Perfect to visit Reggio Calabria and enjoy the beautiful lungo mare and museum.

ItalyGreat location, 2 min walk from the train station with an amazing view on the coast. Room was very clean, friendly and professional staff, keen to accommodate specific requests - special thank to Emanuela for her service and recommendations. I'll definitely recommend it to those who want to enjoy the city center - shops and restaurant are all located by 5/10 min walk - as well as the Museum and beach clubs on the coast.

United KingdomThe hotel was being refurbished during our visit. Consequently is was totally enclosed in scaffolding and plastic sheeting. This made the building very difficult to find. It was once a grand hotel but was old fashioned and certainly needed to be upgraded when we visited it. It is still a very good place to stay.
The room in the Grand Hotel Excelsior was was clean, spacious and well appointed. There was a large desk with good wifi but only one easy chair. The breakfast buffet offered a wide choice and food could be cooked to order. The restaurant produced excellent cuisine which was delivered by courteous, friendly and efficient staff. It was a pleasure to dine in the restaurant in the evening. The restaurant was on the fifth floor and had panoramic views of Sicily and on a clear day, Mount Etna. The bathroom was fine with a jacuzzi bath. All the hotel staff we encountered were well trained, competent and pleasant. The Museum housing the famous Riace Bronzes was only a few meters away. This was the reason we visited Reggio Calabria. Since we were travelling by train being near the railway station was an important factor in choosing this hotel.

United States of AmericaThe elevators! You could tell that this property was a gem when it was built, maybe in the 60's but the electronics were well out of date. When you opened your room the door buzzed - i don't want to hear that. The 2 elevators had separate buttons - not like any modern system. And when you were in the elevator and pressed the button, nothing lit up. Sometimes waiting for the elevator the light would just go out - you thought maybe because it is here - but no! press the button again.
Breakfast was very well run.

United States of AmericaExcellent location and friendly staff. The hotel is across one street from the archaeological museum and the stunning Riace bronzes, and across another street from the beautiful lungomare. The center of town, which is lively and fun, is a short five-minute or so walk away. The staff are very friendly and helpful, providing us with useful information about reaching Sicily (the ferry is only a ten minute walk away). The facilities and rooms are very clean and comfortable.
