Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaWow. Unbelievable stay at Baien. Incredible value with Japanese Bungalow style huts. Very nice public and private onsens, both of which were very clean. Breakfast was very nice in the morning. Don't forget to go by happy hour where you can make your own drinks and hang out in the beautiful lounge area. Was the best place we stayed in during our 3 week trip around Japan.

AustraliaThe western style beds had very hard mattresses.
The room was splendid - really spacious, exceptionally clean and well-appointed with wonderful big windows/lots of natural light. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was very generous and traditional. They offer free happy hour every night with a great selection of drinks in the lovely lobby/lounge area. The onsen options were stunningly designed and just gorgeous, as are the hotel grounds. The have private family onsens which was a great option as our teenage daughters were not keen on the female public bathing. You get a fabulous view of Mt Yufuin and if you like walking, the walk into town is delightful and not too far. The town has many great places to eat/shops. I wish we had stayed more than one night!

SingaporeOnly thing I minded was the location; it is quite far away from Yufuin Station, so you either have to get a taxi or drive here.
The hotel's amenities was great, and staff was super helpful in helping me with my luggage request. The food option for breakfast and the kaiseki dinner was very good and offered a wide variety for guests to try.

SingaporeFood was alright, not bad but nothing to shout out about. Rooms couldn't seem to lock from outside with the keys- but it is generally very safe.
The Ryokan is beautiful everywhere. Loved the private onsen and the space in our room. Food was served in a private room at the dining area. Parking was easy, staff helped us with the luggage all the way. Best to drive there.

JapanThe location was a bit inconvenient as you need to call a taxi to get places if you don't have a car. If you wanted a late-night snack, you were out of luck. Sometimes it was hard to make a reservation with the taxi company in advance as they weren't sure the number of drivers there would be. We only needed a taxi twice and at off-peak times so luckily it was alright but had it been a longer trip, that would've worried me. Also, for check-in, the reception staff didn't seem to know if you're a foreign resident in Japan and provide a Japanese address then there is no need to check the customer's resident card. I was a bit disappointed that they insisted on doing it anyway and made a copy. For reference, they did not do this when I visited a hotel in Fukuoka right after this one.
The food was amazing. They stuffed you like a turkey. Onsen was relaxing. Rooms were big and they kept them warm. I liked that they had a private onsen you could go to and wait instead of dealing with the hassle of making reservations.

AustraliaNothing. It was the highlight of our holiday in Japan as we immersed ourselves in the onsen experience.
Exceptional attention to customer service providing the utmost in comfort, delicious breakfasts and stunning onsen in serene surroundings. The staff went above and beyond in attending to our needs as the only Western guests during our stay. We appreciated the location away from the busy town but a short walk from Kirin Lake. The traditional Japanese breakfasts and the stunning rooms added to a wonderous stay.

SingaporeThe location may be a bit inconvenient from the main shopping strip. We did our sight seeing before checking into the onsen. No bath in the room and private family bath need to take turn and there is no booking.
Beautiful Ryokan with big and comfortable rooms. Staff are friendly and onsen meals are delicious. We are allocated our own private room for meals. I will stay here again if I come to Yufuine.

MalaysiaThe bus stop is about 1.5km from the property, so taking taxi is a better option, though taxis are limited so best to book them early on with the hotel.
Loved everything about this place, from the onsen, the scenery around the resort, the facilities. The dinner and breakfast were absolutely unforgettable. I highly recommend Baien for an experience of a lifetime. Staff were very friendly.

CanadaI don't mind if the hotel is a bit far away from the station, but I was very surprised and disappointed that they don't offer a shuttle bus.
I like the hotel's style. The dinner offerings and the onsens are delightful experiences. Additionally, we took great pleasure in the Self drink bar. It provides a nice setting for relaxation and enjoyment.

The staff were very kind and helped us carry all our luggage to our rooms at check-in. Another staff member politely escorted us into the room and explained every detail. The room is quiet, and you can hear the birds at night. The daily Japanese breakfast is also rich, high quality and very delicious. The hot springs are very comfortable and clean, and the environment is pleasant.
