Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The location. You need to walk about 15 mins to reach central places.
The property comes as a full flat with all you need including kitchen utensils. The apartment has all the security details and entrance is clean. The rooms are not small and the bathroom is clean. It’s not the best location but easy to visit all the landmarks and famous places.

Communication not great. Washing machine not working. Air con in living room not working (worked in the bedroom though). Customer service not great when we asked to extend our stay. They use very strong cleaning products and the smell was quite intense.
Big room, lift access. Location was okay if you don’t mind walking a bit. Comfortable bed.

Need a ceiling light in the hallway outside the bathroom and also brighter lights inside the bathroom.
The location near the Cristal park and restaurants was great. The park has some lovely views of the river. There’s a nice little supermarket just down the street. Excellent communication with the property manager.

We had a good stay no complains at all
The apartment was really lovely good value for money The location for us was fine in a quiet art area thou easy reach to tourist attractions we are in our sixties and the hills were very steep the hop on bus really helped us get on at bottom of road

I hate picking holes, but if pushed, the settee was not very comfortable. Seriously though, if that’s all there was to complain about, that says it all about the quality and standard.
Modern, spotless, well-equipped and really spacious. Great location and very secure complex.

I would have preferred to have don self check in. I was 30 mins earlier than the scheduled appointment time due to early flight arrival and ended up waiting outside the apartment for 30 mins with 2 cranky kids

The view from our side was looking out on more apartments.
We paid less than half what other people were paying at hotels. The apartment was a bit small but I expected it. Very clean. Bed was better than some but not the best. Comfortable. On a side street so it was quiet. Only a short block downhill to the Crystal Palace and gardens. A grocery store next door and a Cafe next to it. We ate there every morning.

I just had an issue with the mattress as it was very hard, but I think this is more of a preference thing.
Absolutely loved the room, it was like a studio with a kitchen and a dining table. Very clean. Alex welcomed us and was so helpful and very happy. Location is amazing. Lots of access to public transport directly from the station. A beautiful park with peacocks and cockrols a 5 minute walk away. Powerful shower. Perfect stay.

Maybe the comfort of the mattress and the bed linen itself, which seemed like double bed size on a king size bed.
Communication was good and check in went as arranged. Discovered how well located the area is for buses to the city centre and that the open top tour buses stop at the bottom of the street, which was a bonus. Situated in a quiet area, so no problem sleeping and there was air conditioning

Great location in quiet street although close to town. Comfortable, well equipped and clean, perfect for a short stay in Porto. Close to bus stops and stop for Hop On Hop Off buses and walking distance to centre of Porto. Lovely park close by with great views across the river.
