What can I say? This is a fabulous place to stay if you love fantastic views, picturesque countryside, a wide variety of birds (I was doing a birding trip and this location has masses of species to photograph), genial hosts, the most amazing dogs (gently, friendly, totally non-scary for those who are a bit wary), delicious and plentiful breakfasts, well-equipped rooms (mini kitchen and fridge is perfect for a bit of light self-catering if you don't fancy driving 8 minutes down the hill to Mertola) and a swimming pool. I can't wait to stay again.

We had a fantastic stay in a beautiful and relax place! The owner and his dogs are incredibly welcoming! The best breakfast in Portugal! We hope to be back! Highly recommended!

It was away from town and in more of a farm type setting. There was a nice pool and the rooms were pleasant. Breakfast was good.

Jose was a great host, welcoming, friendly, and very helpful. Breakfast was wonderful, plentiful with a wide selection. The location was perfect for us. Close to a local restaurant and just a short drive into Mertola, with great views of the surrounding countryside from the patio outside the room, west facing perfect for sundowners. For me, the best feature was the wonderful pool and terrace on the upper level. Friendly dogs were an added bonus.

Our bathroom smelled a bit from insufficient sewer ventilation. We mentioned it to the wonderful owner who I'm sure will address it.

Hotel is located a approximately 5 miles from Mertola. It is rural with a view of distant mountains and wonderful dogs to play with. We enjoyed the chickens down the hill and sheep grazing in the distance (you could hear the sheep bells). Beautiful pool which we enjoyed greatly as the weather was quite hot. Glorious sunsets. Gracious breakfast. Welcome quiet after spending 5 days in Lisbon and Sintra.

Excellent hosts and hospitality. This is a true hidden gem in Mértola. Located off the beaten bath it was absolutely wonderful for our family of four and we will certainly make a return visit.

It surprised us. We felt like we were in the sticks then arrived at this small but beautiful residence! A charming family made is feel very welcome. The pool was refreshing. Rooms great and the available communal kitchen for alternative and coffee is appreciated. Fantastic breakfast made by the owners. Beautiful sunsets

It’s a 10 minute drive from Mertola, the main attraction in the area. There’s a small section of rough dirt road before reaching the lodge.

It exceeded our expectations. Friendly and caring host. Room not big but has everything, better equipped than other lodges 3 times the price. Breakfast was good too.

This property sits in a rather remote location with vast views of the countryside. Our room was very nice with comfortable mattress and pillows. Our hostess recommended a great local restaurant, and we came back to have a glass of wine under the stars....which were amazing. Morning breakfast was very tasty with lots of choice of local cheese, breads, fresh fruit and yogurt, and amazing fruit toppings and local honey. What a wonderful memory we have created of the beautiful Horta da Quinta.

It wasn't easy to find in the dark. As against this, it was very nice to be rescued by the host. Everything else was first class.

This is an idyllic location. Quiet, remote, near the top of the rust coloured hills of Alentejo. A big friendly dog called Cali. I think there are only three guest rooms. Swimming pool immaculate. Meals can be had in nearby Mertola. Eggs from local hens for breakfast (their progenitor may have woken you). Not a place for children, as the only things to do are to read, cement relationships or simply stare into the distance with a meditative air.

Everything was first class

Lovely small hotel in a superb location. Our host Jose could not have been more accommodating. The pool was excellent We will undoubtedly return.
