Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

MexicoPrivacy curtains on the bunks would be amazing. A chair in the dorm would be helpful for those on tops bunks.
The location is amazing and the staff were helpful. Bed was comfortable and decent sheets and towels were provided.

United States of AmericaI got the email how to go to the hostel but the busses at the LAX (city bus) didn't showed up, so I recommend just follow the Google map.
It was my first time to use hostel ever and it was fantastic!!! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room was clean ,and everyone respected each other. The best part was the bathroom- it was new and clean, and stocked with fresh bath towel and bath mats. Location was also good, 5-10 mins walk to the Santa Monica pier, and cute cafes nearby, and 10mins walk to Trader Joes and Target! (but please be cautious when walking at night due to the presence of homeless individuals) Overall, I would stay here when I visit Santa Monica in the future :)

ChileThe beds were a little uncomfortable.
I liked everything, the people, the vibes, it was clean. The comedy show was so fun and I enjoyed the huge kitchen. The breakfast everyday was the best. The location was amazing, so close to the subway, to the beach and the pier. Definitely the best hostal that I've been too!

United States of AmericaI had a great time at HI Santa Monica. Probably one of the nicer hostels I’ve stayed at! The location was perfect. Two blocks to the beach. Facility felt very secure. Large, clean kitchen and dining area with filtered water. Beds were a bit creaky but clean. Putting this place on my must return list!

GermanySome staff members could have been a bit more friendly, or at least smile! :)
Great location, spacious room and big lockers, spacious bathroom and pretty clean, good breakfast, nice common areas, a lot of activities (I didn't participate but it is a nice option especially when travelling solo). They even provided towels (which is not often the case in hostels). With the reception and the key cards it also felt very safe!

United States of AmericaThe staff did seem to be overworked/stretched thin and the staff to guest ratio was a little rough; that or supplies/management are struggling at the moment. that said all the employees were soooo friendly and helpful and unfailingly resourceful I just really appreciated them.
Everyone was so friendly and energetic, there was a great atmosphere from both staff and patrons

United States of AmericaToo many kids taking up the refrigerator spaces with leftovers that’s about all to complain of if anything -
The consistency and quality for the low cost - expectations are always higher than anywhere else - for that price

United KingdomLA has a homeless, drugs issue. It is a cleaner, posher area. However, I spotted rats near the gardens of the pier.
Location is in the centre of Santa Monica and walking distance to the pier. Clean, safe and of International standards. Huge kitchen and free ☕️ ☕️ ☕️

United KingdomThe beds do creak slightly when you move, but nothing catastrophic. The only thing is that there's no aircon control (that any of us in our room could find) so it's set on one setting. Otherwise, faultless stay!!
The location was excellent - right near the beach, and also close to public transport and bus tours. There were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. As a solo female, it felt like a great area to be in. The staff were incredibly helpful, and I was able to store luggage for the day after checking out. Breakfast was good too, and the events run by the hostel team were good. I'd say if you're looking for a good location to stay in LA, this felt safe and well-equipped.

New ZealandOnly downside is not getting the room we booked well in advance (almost 10months before our trip) no communication about that room not being available or not being told on the day that the room we booked wasn't the one we were getting. Other than that, everything else was great, not really a family kind of vibe or for fit for a family of 5
Place was amazing, location amazing and facilities were great, staff were very helpful as well, .

United States of AmericaIt is far from other LA attractions.
I loved it. I stayed in a nice hotel in downtown prior to HI hostel and I liked the hostel way more. The location is great, very close to the beach with a lot of places to eat around. There was a lot of young people in the neighborhood. I felt way safer than when I stayed in downtown, where I would see only homeless and creepy people walking in the street. The hostel had a cute decoration and was clean. The breakfast was nice as well. People were quiet. The staff were helpful.

United States of AmericaI liked absolutely everything! I had already stayed at the HI in NYC and loved the experience, so I expected to have a good experience at the HI in Santa Monica too. The receptionists were very friendly, I really enjoyed the breakfast. The bed was very comfortable, there were two pillows and the locker was a great size.
