Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomOn our first day, we went to the bar and the barman was incredibly rude so we didn't go in there again. The other thing to be aware of is the hotel can be quite noisy if you have a room on the front (not just from the construction work that was going on which will be a one off) but because the hotel is right in the centre of town. The hotel's bathroom system is incredibly noisy and we asked to move after no sleep on the first night caused by the room above us contiually flushing their loo through the night - it sounds like a mini tornado! Staff were very good though and we slept much better the following two nights.
The Menger is a beautiful hotel situated right in the centre of San Antonio, next to the Alamo. It is a historic building with period features but with modern comforts - very different to the modern hotels used on the rest of our trip. Comfortable bed and nice furnishings in the room. Good valet staff, busy at check out time but well managed. Lovely pool with complimentary towels.

United States of AmericaThe actual room was dark, despite numerous lamps. There was only overhead lighting in the bathroom and entryway to the room.
I loved the hotel's decor. There is plenty of seating throughout the first floor. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic for visiting the Riverwalk, was museum or The Alamo.

United States of AmericaThe Alamo is undergoing a multiple year construction project which blocked off 2 sides of the hotel with chain link fencing.

United KingdomWould be useful to have some basic changing facility/booth in the pool area. Major construction works on the Alamo virtually right up to the Menger building. Not in any means the fault of the hotel but would have been helpful to be warned that construction work begins at 7am. Not the best situation when there to relax.
Fabulous location adjacent to the Alamo and Riverwalk. So beautifully preserved to show off its history and elegance. All the staff team from the valet team through to the reception were excellent from the hello to the goodbye. LOVE the pool which I used regularly throughout our stay, great way to finish off a day exploring the city.

United States of AmericaRattled by negative initial “greeting” from valet. Unnecessarily harsh Verbal assault for stopping in wrong place ( next to valet sign). Would have preferred “ welcome , please park over there” . Bathroom tight and worn out.
Great location. Great history, nice room. Good bed. Quiet.

United States of AmericaThere was a full glass of wine (left from a previous guest, I assume?) in the window between the shutters and the glass. It looked like it had been there a day or two based on the ring at the top where it had been evaporating. There was also a sticky spot on the table in the living room area of our suite. We told housekeeping about it, but they brought some extra towels and did not remove the glass of wine or wipe up the sicky spill. So it just sat there our entire stay. On our last night, I had a dream that the wine was actually an offering to appease a ghost in the room and that the wine glass had moved back to the window by itself. :) The hotel is famously haunted and we saw many groups on ghost tours staring up at the hotel and hearing about the ghost stories. I don't actually think our room was haunted, but it was a funny idea in my brain that helped explain why they never cleaned up the wine.
This hotel is gorgeous! The style and antiques seem to transport you back in time! The location is absolutely perfect for everything we wanted to do.

United States of AmericaRoom temperature was hard to control, and it made noise through the night. The staff was mostly nice and helpful, but I had a problem with a Receipt I needed for work and was told I can't get one, although Booking.com said the hotel will give me the Receipt for the stay. They had to call booking and after they talked to them they gave me the receipt finally, it was just not convenient at checkout for me which was at 5am. The area itself is under construction, and it is hard to get an Uber to drop you off at the hotel. The area doesn't feel safe to walk at night, which can cause a problem if Uber can't reach the hotel back parking area.
The location for walking to and from the conference hall and the Alamo was perfect. BUT This area is not very safe at night. The room is big and nicely decorated. The hotel is very nice although old it has ambiance. It is clean and quiet, which is nice.

United States of AmericaHotel heat was on automatic and not individual thermostats in the rooms. Therefore it was 74 degrees in a tiny room and we were unable to breathe. Maintenance brought us a fan and we cracked the window. This would’ve been unnecessary if we could use our own thermostat in the room.
The hotel is close to the mall in the Riverwalk.
